I’m super late to the podcast scene, but now I’m wondering how on earth I didn’t start listening sooner! Podcasts are now a part of my daily routine – usually while on walks with June or listening while cleaning/baby-corralling. I have yet to get into the more story oriented shows like the popular Serial, Welcome to Night Vale, etc. For some reason I’m much more inclined towards informative or motivational type podcasts. I thought I’d share my favorite podcasts in case anyone wants to take a listen!
Informative (boost your cocktail chatter):
Freakonomics Radio – if you enjoyed the book Freakonomics you will likely also get a kick out of this podcast! The topics are all over the place but each episode is always attention-grabbing. I especially enjoyed their episodes from this past May, which they entitled their “Self-Improvement Month.”
Revisionist History with Malcolm Gladwell – Gladwell is the author of the bestselling books The Tipping Point, Outliers, and several others. This podcast revisits history and explores how we may now have a better understanding of past events. I found the episodes focused on education really fascinating (episodes 4, 5, and 6).
Stuff You Should Know – an entertaining look at a wide range of topics. This is definitely a podcast that I pick and choose based on which topics sound interesting to me. But I’m sure that if I were to listen at random I would be entertained even if it wasn’t a subject I was particularly curious about.
Home Improvement/DIY (for all you HGTV lovers):
Young House Love Has a Podcast – I loved YHL’s blog so when they returned from their blogging hiatus with a podcast, I had to check it out! This is an easy light-hearted listen so I never skip an espisode.
Chris Loves Julia – Since I’m not totally home improvement obsessed (yet), I’m a bit more choosy with this podcast. I only pick episodes that might pertain to any projects I have going.
The Lively Show – this is an inspirational podcast that tries to help people focus on living their lives with intention. This is a relatively new podcast for me but I’ve found a lot of the episodes to give me a new outlook on various aspects of life.
Wait Wait…Don’t Tell Me – I’ve loved this for YEARS (as I first listened to the show on NPR). I love it so much that my husband took me to a live taping for our anniversary one year (nerd alert)! This show has a bunch of comedians playing a current events game show of sorts. It’s super funny and always entertains.
Elise Gets Crafty – this podcast focuses on how artists/crafters have found success in business. It’s a mix of entrepreneurial focus and learning about artists’ approach to their work.
Phew! There ya go for some non-story podcasts. There are so many more I’d like to explore! Does anyone have some podcast recommendations?
