Back when the hubby and I were super broke (also known as the grad school years) we needed to buy a new couch. We couldn’t keep our old massive sectional because we were downsizing to a small apartment to save money. Obviously this was not an ideal time to buy a big piece of furniture so we opted for the cheapest couch we could find. Fast forward a few years later and we still have this cheap ugly couch. I hesitate to buy a new expensive couch during these early kiddo years though (I’m looking at you baby pukes and potential marker mishaps). So, is there a way to disguise an ugly couch to live with it for a few more years? I tried out a few things and discovered that you absolutely can hide your ugly couch – and it’s super easy too! Let me take you through this quick and simple process. First we have the ugly couch in all of its multi-colored cushion glory:
Then we get a sheet from the linen closet in a similar color to the ugly couch (when in doubt go with a lighter shade). I used a light gray queen sized fleece sheet which is plenty big enough to cover three large couch cushions or more. The next step is to take out the offensive couch cushions and lay the sheet in that spot like so:
Now add the ugly couch cushions back to couch and tightly tuck the sheet around them.
Lastly add a decorative throw or blanket for some prettiness factor. And voila! That’s it! Easy right? Now I just need to up my couch pillow game a bit and we can hang on to this cheap sucker for a few years more. What do you think? Does this trick your eyes enough?
